A.V. Hospital has been the first Hospital in the State to set up a Unit of Minimal Invasive Surgery in Karnataka State in a private setup. The Hospital has remained in the forefront in this field by procuring all the latest equipment from time to time and having a highly experienced faculty whose skills are internationally acclaimed. Thus the Hospital can boast of being the first to do almost any type of advanced laparoscopic surgery today in Karnataka State.
A.V. Hospital has established the premiere training and research institute called the "Bangalore Endoscopic Surgery Training Institute & Research Centre", and all the academic activities including training and research is being conducted through this institute.

CONFERENCES & WORKSHOPS

The institute has organised several Conferences and Workshops in Laparoscopic Surgery for training in advanced endoscopic surgical skills. Research activities from the Institute has resulted in Dr. M. Ramesh, the Director of the Institute present over 60 papers in Conferences both in India & abroad.

The B.E.S.T. Institute & Research Center is also involved in development projects of major technologies like Virtual Realty & Robotics.

At the same time the institute is keenly involved is developing low-cost instrumentation and techniques to make Laparoscopy more affordable. It’s aim and endeavour is to see Laparoscopy at every nook & corner of our country.

INNOVATIONS & RESEARCH

The Bangalore Endoscopic Surgery Training Institute & Research Center has been involved in major research projects in association with Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in developing a virtual reality laparoscopic surgery training module. The Phase I of the project has been completed and the 1st module comprising of basic exercises done using a virtual reality is undergoing clinical trials. The Phase II of this project is a joint venture between B.E.S.T. Institute, DRDO and MIT of USA, which has started.
The B.E.S.T. Institute has also designed and developed several instruments and gadgets for both training and performing of laparoscopic surgeries along with many Indian manufacturers of Instruments.
The B.E.S.T. Institute and Research Center is currently involved with development of telemedicines and is conducting research and development of modules for telementoring laparoscopic surgeries.
